Palm Sunday – 14 April 2019

Palm Sunday is also known as Passion Sunday, the first day of Holy Week and the Sunday before Easter. It commemorates the triumphal entry of Christ into Jerusalem, riding on a donkey. Riding on a donkey symbolised Peace, whereas riding on a horse symbolised War.

People waved palm branches and threw them down, along with their cloaks in front of him, while shouting Hosannah, as a greeting and to honour him, on his arrival in Jerusalem.

Today we give Palm Crosses, which have been blessed, to everyone who comes into Groomsport Parish Church on Palm Sunday.
